1. Controller

The controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:

Martin Schaarschmidt
Ortenauer Straße 25
69126 Heidelberg
Germany

Email: hello@martinschaarschmidt.com

2. Hosting and server log data

This website is hosted by Netlify. The provider is Netlify, Inc., 512 2nd Street, Suite 200, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA.

When you access the website, technically necessary connection and usage data is processed. This may include your IP address, date and time of access, the requested page or file, browser and device information, referrer information and technical status data. This processing is necessary to deliver the website, maintain its stability and security and identify technical errors.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. My legitimate interest is the secure, reliable and technically error-free operation of this website.

A data processing agreement is in place with Netlify. Netlify may also process data outside the European Economic Area, in particular in the United States. Netlify is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework; where that transfer mechanism does not apply, Netlify's agreement provides, among other safeguards, for the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

Further information: Netlify Privacy Policy and Netlify Data Processing Agreement.

3. Netlify Web Analytics

Netlify Web Analytics is enabled on this website. Analytics are generated server-side from Netlify's CDN server logs. No additional client-side analytics script is loaded and, according to Netlify, Web Analytics does not use cookies.

The service provides aggregated information such as page views, pages visited, approximate locations, bandwidth usage and resources returning errors. To determine unique visitors, Netlify counts different IP addresses within defined time periods. Netlify states that site activity is tracked anonymously and without personally identifying information.

I use these statistics solely to understand general website usage and to make technical or editorial improvements. I do not combine this information with other data sets, create advertising profiles or use it for personalised advertising.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. My legitimate interest is privacy-friendly reach measurement and optimisation of the website. Because the analytics currently used operate server-side and do not store or access information on the visitor's device, no consent under Section 25 TDDDG is required for Netlify Web Analytics in its current configuration.

Netlify does not publish one fixed general retention period for all data processed in this context. Retention depends on the processing purpose and Netlify's contractual and legal requirements. I do not store separate personal visitor profiles outside Netlify.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

In its current configuration, this website does not use its own analytics, marketing or tracking cookies. It also does not load external web fonts, social-media pixels or embedded third-party video players.

The JavaScript used on the website serves only presentation and interaction purposes, such as navigation, project views and revealing the contact address.

5. Contact by email

If you contact me by email, I process the information you provide, in particular your email address, name, message content and any other information you voluntarily include, in order to handle and respond to your request.

My email account is provided by IONOS. The provider is IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Straße 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany. IONOS processes data as a processor in connection with the provision of the email service. IONOS provides for a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR for its mail products.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where the communication relates to entering into or performing a contract. In other cases, processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is responding to communications addressed to me.

I delete correspondence when it is no longer required for the respective purpose and no statutory retention obligations or other legitimate reasons require further storage. Business-related correspondence may be subject to statutory retention periods.

Further information: IONOS privacy information.

6. Your rights

Subject to the applicable legal requirements, you have in particular the right to access your personal data, rectify inaccurate data, request erasure, restrict processing and receive data portability.

Where processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, you also have the right to object to the processing on grounds relating to your particular situation.

To exercise your rights, simply email hello@martinschaarschmidt.com.

7. Right to lodge a complaint

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for my place of establishment is in particular:

Der Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg
Heilbronner Straße 35
70191 Stuttgart
Germany
